Hello! My name is Mariela, and I am a third-grade dual language teacher originally from Puerto Rico and currently living in Washington State. I bring more than 15 years of teaching experience across diverse educational settings, including public, private, and charter schools in Puerto Rico and the United States.
I hold a Master’s degree in Global Perspectives: Teaching, Curriculum, and Learning Environments, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. I am passionate about supporting multilingual learners and creating inclusive classrooms where every student feels valued, represented, and empowered.
My teaching philosophy is centered on differentiated instruction, scaffolding, and social-emotional learning strategies that help students succeed. I enjoy creating bilingual resources designed for dual language classrooms, with engaging and culturally responsive activities that support both Spanish and English instruction.
Outside of the classroom, I am the creator of The Hungry Dragonfly, where I share Puerto Rican recipes, baking, and stories that celebrate culture through food. I love bringing creativity, culture, and language into both my teaching and the resources I create for educators.
